Chalandritsa, 17 km SSW of Patras, is the location of a Mycenaean settlement. It was detected in 1985, during the digging for the construction of the Health Center which was finally erected in another place. - The settlement, the ancient name of which is not known, covers a low hilltop. Its buildings were laid out in concentric rings, with streets radiating from its centre where a larger megaron stood. |

Coming from Patras, the most difficult part is to find the way out of the city. The rest of the way is quite easy, and when passing through Chalandritsa, the archaeological site is signposted at the far side of the town. The site is fenced and was locked at my visit. However, a reasonably good view from some distance is obtained from the hill that you reach when following the road further out from Chalandritsa. |
